Hug time!

I just came back from giving my guinea pigs a cuddle (which was much appreciated by squeeks as I have been really busy recently and hadn't had time to visit them v. often) and I just thought randomly I could give you a few tips of advisable foods for your piggies:

suitable foods include:
carrot
beetroot
parsley
cucumber
apple (but just a bit as they can develop mouth problems due to the sourness)
celery (chopped, otherwise it might be hard to chew)
dry food ( I don't recommend Gerty guinea pig, as it has colouring and is unhealthy. Get a nice, old-fashioned mix from a nice pet shop which contains pellets, dried carrots and the usual stuff)
grapes (only one every other day because it causes dioherra)
honeydew melon.

unsuitable foods:
iceburg lettuce
potatoes.

ALWAYS SUPPLY HAY, FRESH WATER, AND FOOD.

tommorrow I will do a post on grooming,
love,
Anna x

Hutch cleaning day

As it is cold and winter, we are having to regularly put more hay and straw in Monty and Ginger's hutch. There is still lots of snow. In order to clean the hutch we put them out in their run, which they probably enjoyed as they had not been able to graze on grass in a long time thanks to the gruelling wheather. It is fun though, as Me and my friends can skid on the ice, but the other day The stairs of the spanish room in my school were covered in black ice, and it took me 20 mins to get down the stairs. Anyways, me and dad put them in their run whilst I stayed indoors unfortunately with a cold, whilst dad kindly cleaned out their hutch. We treated them to a carrot, refilled their dry food bowl, stuffed some hay down their play tunnel and checked their water bottle was not frozen. Make very, very sure you check your piggies' water bottle is not frozen, even if this means getting up early. Of course, you should be able to tell by the weather if it is freezing temperature outside, but a few days ago even when it was quite mild (but still with snow) Their water bottle was frozen. I shall visit them again today to feed them some more, Monty and Ginger send their love to all their fans!!!

Best Wishes,
Anna, Monty and Ginger.
